The olive tree and the symbolism
The blessed tree, the olive tree, grows with the family, the love that the Greek farmer gives to this tree is transmitted from generation to generation and from family to family. When a child was born an olive tree was planted. When the child was seven years old and he started the school, the olive tree was ready to bear fruits.
In the history the olive tree symbol recurs continuously, such as the dove that Noah sent to the ark returned with an olive branch, as indicating the peace and fertility return of on earth. In the Greek Orthodox Church today Olive oil is used in the baptism ritual, as it was used by Christ. The ambassadors wore olive branches to show peaceful intentions, while the "Kotino" crown made of olive branches was used to crown the Olympic Games winners which were held every four years and during which all wars were stopped. Even today, the green olive branch is present in the United Nations emblem and it symbolizes peace.
